Election Commission Issues Notice to KCR Over Derogatory Remarks Against Congress

The Election Commission of India has taken action against K Chandrashekar Rao, President of Bharat Rashtra Samiti and former Chief Minister of Telangana, following a complaint filed by Congress leader G Niranjan. The complaint alleges that Rao made derogatory remarks about the Congress Party during a press conference held in Sircilla on April 5, violating the Model Code of Conduct.

In response to the complaint, the Election Commission issued a notice to KCR, requesting clarification on his remarks by 11 am on April 18. The commission has emphasized that appropriate actions will be taken if no response is received within the given timeframe.

Furthermore, the Election Commission of India provided insights into its actions since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct on March 16, 2024. Among the total complaints received, the commission noted 51 from the Bharatiya Janata Party and 59 from the Congress, resulting in actions taken in 38 and 51 cases respectively. Additionally, 90 complaints from other parties saw action taken in 80 cases.

Highlighting its commitment to fairness, the Election Commission outlined “exemplary decisions” made during the final month of the Model Code of Conduct. Notably, the commission emphasized its firm stance on preserving the dignity and honor of women. Notices were issued to party leaders who made derogatory and offensive remarks against women, reaffirming the Election Commission’s dedication to maintaining a level playing field among political parties.

This move by the Election Commission underscores its proactive approach in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and upholding the principles of ethical conduct in political discourse.
